Why publish Notes from Fern Sanctuary?

All my life, I have felt a profound connection with Nature. This connection has expressed itself in multiple ways; through art, through life choices, through those I am close to, through those individuals and institutions I have turned away from. It has, at times, made it hard for me to move through the human aspects of this beautiful world without controversy. One of the most prolific and expressive ways I have found to share my experiences is through the written word, whether in brief, sometimes caustic comments on the state of the world or through longer essays on my perception of it. I would like to think that most of them are not caustic, but I can be direct, even snarky at times. It is part of who I am. It is part of some of the stranger Work I do.

“Shamanic practitioners can perform some of the classic healing methods that will help people today… but performing shamanic healings for people today, although important, is not enough. For shamans see that illness comes from living a life that is out of balance and disharmonious. One of the greatest gifts that shamanic practitioners can give people is to help them learn how to change their lives so that harmony returns. And we must also help people live a life of honor and respect for nature and the rest of life. In this way harmony and health can return to the planet again…" ~ Sandra Ingerman

A bit of Woo wrapped in Ruthless Compassion and Awe

So yes, there are going to be some unusual things said here. If you are looking for mainstream conversation, this is probably not going to be a place that will interest you. If, however, you want to talk or read about animism, quantum states of being, metaphysics, humanity’s impact on the Earth and how we can help save what is left of the natural world in communion with it, then this might work for you. I have a lot of diverse interests and feel compelled to talk about a lot of them.

There is also “The Project”

Fern Sanctuary is more than the place I live and write from. Fern is a long-cherished Dream from almost 30 years ago coming to fruition. There will be more on that, soon, and I will update with links to Newsletter drops specifically about this. This Newsletter will always have a free option, but if you would like to help with the Project once you see what that entails, all proceeds go directly toward making that happen. Any support, monetary or not, is greatly appreciated.

My promise to you:

No hate speech. No animal cruelty. No bullying, ever. Support for all marginalized Beings. There are no advertisements. I will never sell or share your information with anyone else.

I will save photos of my cat, Mews, for the Notes feature here on Substack, as well as thoughts that may not justify a full article, re-stacks that I feel are important (with or without commentary) and maybe some memes or humorous items if the moment calls for them.

Longer articles published in Notes from Fern Sanctuary will arrive in your inbox no more than four days a week. There may be more than one in a day. It will be a mix of whatever needs voicing in that moment. Most of what I write is not long; I am not a novelist and my longest posts have been three pages including photos. I always try to include visuals.

Who I am:

Photo of Jade Porter DuBois on Fern Sanctuary

I am a sometimes zany GenJones not-quite-hippie who enjoys being a semi-hermit but also wants to give something back to the world. This is how I am doing it. I am passionate about what I believe but not judgmental about most things, except injustice and cruelty and anyone trying to control the body autonomy of anyone other than themselves.

All content including visuals in Notes from Fern Sanctuary is created by me, Jade Porter DuBois, unless otherwise noted.
